Marble countertops installed in Houston TX kitchen by Olafab Cabinetry

Marble Countertops Houston, TX

Classic stone for kitchens and bathrooms. Templated and installed by our crew.

Marble doesn't look like any other surface. That's why people choose it.

The veining in marble comes from mineral deposits formed over millions of years. Each slab has its own pattern, its own movement of color through the stone. No two pieces are alike, and no engineered material accurately replicates the depth you see in a real marble surface. People choose marble for kitchen islands, bathroom vanity tops, and fireplace surrounds because they want the real thing, not a substitute.

Marble does require more maintenance than granite or quartz. It is a calcium-based stone, which means it reacts with acids. Lemon juice, vinegar, tomato sauce, and some cleaning products can etch the surface, leaving dull spots on polished marble. This is not a defect. It is a property of the material. We are upfront about this with every customer. If you cook frequently with acidic ingredients and want a low-maintenance surface, marble in the kitchen may not be the right fit. If you understand what you are getting and still want marble, we will fabricate and install it correctly.

Kitchen Marble Countertops

Marble in a kitchen works best on islands or lower-use surfaces where acid exposure is limited. It is not the ideal choice for a heavily used prep surface, but many Houston homeowners use marble islands for baking and food display where the surface is regularly cleaned and maintained. Olafab Cabinetry installs kitchen marble with careful sealing and provides honest guidance on which finish and placement make the most sense for your cooking habits.

Bathroom Marble Vanity Tops

Bathrooms are where marble performs best in a residential setting. The lower exposure to acids means etching is rarely an issue. A marble vanity top adds material character to a master bath or guest bathroom, and a quality seal applied at installation keeps the surface protected for years. Olafab Cabinetry handles single and double sink cutouts for undermount or drop-in basins, in polished or honed finishes depending on your preference.

Marble requires more care than granite. Here's what to know before you buy.

Marble is porous and softer than granite. It scratches more easily and etches when it contacts acidic substances. A professional seal at installation helps protect the surface from staining, but it does not prevent etching. Honed marble hides etch marks better than polished because the matte surface does not show the contrast between an etched area and the surrounding stone. If maintaining a perfect surface finish is important to you, honed is usually the more practical choice for kitchens.

Despite its maintenance requirements, marble remains a popular choice among Houston homeowners who want a surface with real material depth and natural variation. The key is making the decision with accurate information. We cover all of this with every customer before fabrication begins. If marble is right for your project, we will fabricate and install it with the same care we bring to every job.

Marble varieties Houston TX stone yard

Carrara, Calacatta, Statuario, and more.

These three names refer to different marble varieties quarried in the Carrara region of Italy, but they look quite different in person. Carrara marble has a soft white to light grey background with subtle, delicate grey veining. It is the most widely available Italian marble and tends to be more affordable. Calacatta has a brighter white background with bolder, more dramatic veining in gold or grey tones. It is less common than Carrara and typically more expensive. Statuario sits between the two in terms of drama -- a cleaner white ground than Carrara but with strong, defined veins. Beyond Italian stone, Olafab Cabinetry also carries Turkish, Greek, and Spanish marbles in various colors and patterns.

The best way to understand the difference between varieties is to see them side by side at our Houston stone yard. Photos do not do justice to how light moves through marble. A slab that looks grey-white in a photo can appear almost ivory in the right lighting. Come in and look at the actual stone before making a decision.

Polished reflects light. Honed hides scratches. Both are marble.

The finish you choose affects how your marble looks and how it behaves over time. Polished marble has a reflective surface that brings out the depth and brilliance of the stone's color and veining. It shows the material at its most dramatic. It also shows water marks, fingerprints, and etching more clearly because the smooth surface creates a visual contrast when disrupted. Polished marble is a good choice for bathroom vanity tops and lower-use surfaces.

Honed marble has a matte finish. The surface is still smooth to the touch but does not reflect light. Etch marks are much less visible on honed stone because there is no sheen to disrupt. Scratches are also harder to see. For this reason, most countertop fabricators and designers recommend honed marble for kitchen applications. The tradeoff is that honed marble tends to absorb stains more readily, so sealing is especially important. Olafab Cabinetry offers both finishes and can help you decide which makes sense for your specific installation.

Marble installed in Houston homes and commercial spaces.

Olafab Cabinetry has installed marble countertops in Houston kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces for over fifteen years. Marble requires more precise handling than granite or quartz. The stone is more susceptible to cracking during transport and installation. Our team uses proper equipment and takes time with placement to avoid damage. We do not rush marble installs.

For commercial projects including restaurant counters, hotel bathrooms, and office reception surfaces, we work with both standard and book-matched layouts where two adjacent slabs are mirrored to create a symmetrical veining pattern. Call us to discuss what is available in our current inventory and whether book-matching is feasible for your project.

What Houston homeowners say about our marble work

I specifically wanted Calacatta marble for the master bath. Olafab Cabinetry had four different Calacatta slabs in the yard and walked me through the differences between them. The one I chose has bold gold veining that looks different in morning light versus evening. The installation was clean and the edge profile they recommended works perfectly with the rest of the bathroom. I am very pleased with the result.

Susan T. Homeowner, The Woodlands TX
Olafab Cabinetry was straightforward with me about marble in the kitchen. They explained the etching issue clearly and recommended honed Statuario instead of polished. That advice was right. We have been using the kitchen for about a year and the surface still looks great. They did not just sell me what I asked for -- they told me what would actually work.

David M. Homeowner, Pearland TX
We did a full bathroom renovation and used Black Marquina marble for the vanity top. Olafab Cabinetry sourced a slab with consistent veining and the fabrication was precise. The undermount sink cutout is perfect. Several guests have asked about the material and I always send them to Olafab Cabinetry. Reliable company with good people.

Marble countertop FAQ

Honest answers to questions Houston homeowners ask before choosing marble countertops.

Yes. Marble is a calcium-based stone, which means it reacts chemically with acids. Lemon juice, vinegar, tomato, wine, and even some bathroom cleaners can leave dull marks called etches on polished marble. Etching is not a stain -- it is a surface reaction that dull the polish in that area. Honed marble hides etching better because there is no sheen to disrupt. Sealing helps prevent staining but does not stop etching. If you want a kitchen countertop with no maintenance concerns, quartz or granite are more practical choices.
Both are Italian marbles from the Carrara region of Tuscany, but they look quite different. Carrara has a soft white to light grey background with thin, subtle grey veining. It is the most common Italian marble and tends to be more affordable. Calacatta has a brighter, cleaner white background with bolder, more dramatic veining in gold, grey, or brown tones. Calacatta is rarer and commands a higher price. Statuario sits between the two -- a cleaner white than Carrara with strong defined veins but without the stark contrast of high-end Calacatta. Come to our Houston yard to see all three side by side.
Marble pricing varies significantly depending on the variety. Domestic and Carrara marble typically runs $60 to $90 per square foot installed in Houston. Calacatta marble ranges from $90 to $150 or more depending on the slab's quality and veining pattern. Rare varieties like certain Calacatta Gold or Statuario can exceed $200 per square foot. Call Olafab Cabinetry at (713) 460-1100 for a quote based on your specific project dimensions and the marble type you are considering.
Marble is one of the best choices for bathroom vanity tops. The main concerns with marble in a kitchen -- exposure to acidic food and frequent harsh cleaning -- are much reduced in a bathroom. With a professional seal applied at installation and routine maintenance, a marble bathroom vanity top holds up well for decades. Many Houston homeowners choose marble for the master bath specifically because the material character and natural veining are well worth the modest maintenance requirements in that setting.
After you select your slab and we complete templating, fabrication takes approximately five to seven business days. Marble requires careful handling during fabrication and transport, which is factored into the schedule. Installation day takes one day for most jobs. Total time from slab selection to finished countertop is usually one to two weeks. Let us know when you call if you have a specific completion date and we will confirm whether it works with our current schedule.
