Quartzite is the marble alternative most people haven't heard of. It forms when sandstone is exposed to heat and pressure underground — looks like marble, with flowing veins and a lighter background, but significantly harder. Quartz is engineered stone — 90-95% crushed natural quartz bonded with resin. The surface is non-porous, so it won't stain, harbor bacteria, or need sealing. Ever. Marble is the highest-maintenance option. It etches from acid — toothpaste, mouthwash, and most bathroom cleaners will dull the surface over time without proper sealing every 6 to 12 months.
